Wool is outright feral - one step away from the animal that has been wandering the landscape in the rain and wind, with barnyard pheromones that unconsciously trigger a familiarity. Felted wool has qualities that surprise: it is seamless, colorful, tactile, and extraordinarily strong. The process involves layering fibers, adding soap and warm water, and with rolling and rubbing it shape-shifts into a solid, tight form. The work is physically intensive and conjures up a most rich, primordial soup kind of experience.
