Polar Bear In Need of More Iceberg

Polar Bear In Need of More Iceberg
Polar bears need icebergs for a surprising reason other than access to seal hunting – icebergs grow algae that all other creatures in a bear’s diet depend on. Climate change is indeed affecting these bears by melting the icepack. Purchasing this work will generate a donation of 20% to Polar Bear International, and help us all to remember to lower our carbon footprint.
The “iceberg” bowl is wet felted, a process where wool is layered over a resist, and with the addition of soapy water and rubbing and rolling, creates a tightly woven shape. The bear is felted without water by using a barbed needled which permanently tangles the wool into a form. The work is in 2 individual pieces - the bowl and bear are separate sculptures a shown below. Bear love!
